For a top DJ set look at Beethoven, a top composer

http://www.djtutor.com/structure A composer form many yrs ago would take musical instraments and use these to take people on a journy. Now a modern day DJ can do this by compiling a set of toons/records and putting them togeather in the correct order to form a set. Nothing in this tutorial is provided as legal advise it is provided for information purposes only.

Jul 3, 2008 - to waxychuff, forget bpm, forget timing, forget records, forget cd's, Just imagin A dj of today will select other peoples music and fit this music togeather in a way so each individual piece of music complements all the others. A good dj can create a "flow", they can blend each piece of music to the point at whitch it becomes seamless! A good DJ is a composer!!

PreteLangue Says:

Jul 4, 2008 - Djing is not about turntables, cdj's, mixers, beatmatching or anything there just tools to compose, just like a composer uses the orchestra.

Jul 4, 2008 - hey man ignore these idiots commenting. i think it makes sense. and the majority of us think so too. P & E :)

Robzsz Says:

Jul 4, 2008 - some people forget that these videos are for people that have no knowledge, just starting, or just curios about DJ-ing. thats why half of these videos have been dumbed down so that people can have a visualised way of seeing the theory parts of it.

Jul 4, 2008 - I've seen a few vids from you about this and I believe I understand what you are trying to say.. you should have music that has different moods to make them happy, mellow out, and go nuts etc. take them on an emotional journey by playing with their mood. i would like to see a tutorial on how to mix a couple of songs together in different ways. like with effects, without, etc. my mixer doesnt have effects but would be nice to see different ways of doing things.

Jul 4, 2008 - ummm, u obviously have the wrong idea, matey. When u DJ u have to control the energy of the music, otherwise, if u just have the best most awesome songs that everyone WILL dance to for an hour, they'll get tired and lose interest. You have to control it, put in more energy when the crowd is up for it and make them happy and make them think that you know what they want.

Jul 4, 2008 - your wish is my comand! j : )

Jul 4, 2008 - 1:09... he sounds like the guy from Art Attack... Anybody remember that? Otherwise, being a DJ, either you are a crowdpleaser, either you play the songs you want and have your own fun... but anyway, this is still a good way of... seeing a set.

DjRavine Says:

Jul 5, 2008 - I would disagree with your graph. Instead of going from low to high, you start off high then go a bit lower til the half way mark and then build up to an ultimate finishing song. The first track has to pump the audience alot. If you start off with a pretty meh track, people are gonna piss off the dancefloor.

jacknesky Says:

Jul 5, 2008 - lol art attack rules

antarcticdirtclod Says:

Jul 5, 2008 - yeah, that is true, but the point he's making is still valid, although you'd hope someone thinking of being a dj would already know it

KingWi11 Says:

Jul 5, 2008 - there are a billion ways of mixing your set. the best thing to do is just add more of what the people are responding to. the kids are really rowdy, and teisto isnt doing it, step it up, play something dangerous, and new. Hell, Tiesto can connect to the Rotterdam Terror Corps if you REALLY try.

djtwiddles Says:

Jul 5, 2008 - the graph could also represent my career as a DJ

Niceavatar Says:

Jul 6, 2008 - JajJaja Art attack!!jajaj guys, i love electronic music, but you should try a better argument!!!

ffernandez16 Says:

Jul 6, 2008 - question: what if ur the second or therd dj going on and the dj before you ended with a high tempo recored what do u do comtinued with the high tempo or start with a low tempo and build the crowed again.

ellaskins Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - If you are the next dj you should pay atention to the last dj, feel his / her music and also see how the croud are reacting, this way you go in to your set as one with the night! j

ffernandez16 Says:

Jul 7, 2008 - thank you very much for the info

Krapvag Says:

Jul 17, 2008 - it's one thing getting a few pill heads to shout "CHOOON" and another to invent new scales and new chord progressions, to write a full orchestral arrangements that are listened to 200 years after Don't get me wrong, a good mix makes any night memorable, but come on mate...Beethoven? Too many drugs!
