This joke makes me genuinely happy, because I think the internal logic is really strong. I just hope I've communicated that adequately with the wording. That's always the thing about these small jokes, the words have to be just so. Too few words and the idea isn't communicated. Too many and the joke drowns in the story. Obviously the same isn't true for all jokes jokes, but I sort of see there being a distinction between narrative jokes and idea jokes. The narrative jokes tell a story and there are themes and ideas that are layered into it. And I'm not against those or anything, but I just have a love for idea jokes, where there's just the idea with as little narrative as possible to communicate it. In this case there's a bit of a story, but it's mostly phrased as an explanation of a conditional situation rather than a "then I did this and then I did that" narrative: X = writing a todo list Y = getting something done Y is the case if and only if X is the case. But X is actually an instance of Y. Therefore if X doesn't preexist, then not Y (which includes not X as a subset). This really makes me wish I'd studied a bit more when I was taking symbolic logic, but I think that roughly gets at what I'm saying. Logic Professors: Please don't steal my jokes. Also, please don't make fun of my feeble attempt at symbolic logic. It's hard to do when you don't have any of the symbols on your keyboard... Also I slept a lot in that class.
