Aug 23, 2008 - Don't bother with a new metal drain pan. It will eventually rust out and leak just like the old one. This install is in a basement that was finished after the home was built? Poor service access suggests that is the case. Get a new evaporator coil with a plastic/ABS drain pan. Heck, get a new closet set (furnace/coil). While you're at it, upgrade the entire HVAC system. HVAC costs are one of a very few expenses that homeowners can add onto the cost of a home sale... almost 100%.

Aug 25, 2008 - That's the plan; we're getting a new furnace and AC. Considering the furnace was installed in 1974 and the AC in 1981, it was way past the time to do so. And yes, the basement was very poorly arranged and finished by the previous owners in the 80s.
