Darkness to Light Here I was living, but my soul was dead Unaware of my duties I was doing what satisfied me Praying Salah was a burden, Reading Quran was a punishment Television was my life Music was a drug Swearing was my language Lying was an addiction Anger was my emotion I had indeed gone astray Tomorrow I will be better I would tell myself, tomorrow I will pray But the more I said this to myself the more I would delay Then the day finally came when I realised what I had done My heart began to tremble as I thought of the torment that was due to come I realised how blind I had become Slowly I started praying my Salah - not all of them but most of them Gradually I started praying all of them Praying was food for my soul, Sweetness for my blood And protection from the Hellfire Oh how grateful I am for finding the straight path Words cannot express the gratitude I feel for being a Muslim.
