Blhovce is situated on the left bank of the river Gortva in the centre of marvelous nature of the protected zone Cérová vrchovina. It is around 25 kilometres south west from the county town Rimavská Sobota. It extends in tectonically valley on the area of 1874 hectares and there live around 820 inhabitants there. The archaeological findings of houses prove that originally village lied 1 km from present location. The first time it came to know from the pergamens from 1427 as property of Jolsvais . Later Blhovce became a royal property and came under the control of Fiľakovo castle administration. When Turkish fightings and invasions came to an end it belonged to the Kohárys and to the Coburgs. In 1890 a wildfire swept the village and nearly the whole village burnt out. The Roman Catholic late Baroque church of St. Mary Magdalene from 1777 braved the fire and maintained. Its classicistic interior was reformed after the war in 1946. In the village people of many nationalities live. 77% of inhabitants are Hungarians, 11,5 % Slovakians and 10,5 % of population are Romanies. The main livelihood is still agriculture. In Blhovce there is an elementary school, kindergarten and a local newspaper is published periodically. Shops with assorted goods, football pitch, community centre and mourning house serve the inhabitants.. You can organize interesting and light walking tours round.
