The species closest to us genetically is the Bonobo chimpanzee, which are apes. But you are correct, evolution doesn't necessarily disprove a god, just that the bible is not accurate or literal.

It says nothing about the pigs being the most genetically similar. Ironically, your USA Today source does talk about the similarity of chimps and humans (~95%). I'll give you the benefit of the doubt this time and assume it was an honest mistake.
