http://www.hancocknhrealestate.com -- Tour Hancock, NH neighborhoods, condominium developments, subdivisions, schools, landmarks, recreational areas, and town offices. Hancock, New Hampshire is a picture-postcard village where some of the state's finest late 18th- and early 19th-century architecture can be found. Hancock was settled in 1764 and incorporated in 1779, named in honor of John Hancock, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and governor of Massachusetts. He owned land here, but never visited. Hancock was once a commercial and farming community, with small textile industries on the Contoocook River, manufactures of rifles and fowling pieces, and a railroad. Today, Hancock is largely residential, with a growing retirement population. Almost every building on Main Street in downtown Hancock is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Hancock's Meetinghouse is home to Paul Revere's #236 bell, which chimes on the hour, day and night. Instead of traditional sidewalks, downtown Hancock features gravel paths leading from home to home.
