Getting position for a ball in the corner when you have a thin cut into the side pocket of that same side of the table is a good example of how sometimes it is better to hit a little harder. It is very difficult to hit the first object ball soft enough to get shape on the second. If you hit the first object ball a little harder it will come off the far rail and leave you good shape. I tried 3 takes to demonstrate this simple concept before my batteries died and now have even more respect for how well done forcefollow's videos are. I never quite got a really good video of that concept but perhaps an adequate one and it was fun to try. Thanks to youtube.com/bigrigtom for his help on this and for the use of his fantastic garage table :)

Jul 21, 2008 - Thanks FF - Yes that would be smarter for the way the balls were set up. In hindsight, I should have set the cue ball in a spot that made the shot on the eight ball much thinner (like a foot off the rail) - that would have better illustrated the idea of hitting the cueball a little harder so it goes off the bottom rail to get position rather than trying to hit it super soft like my initial beginner instincts tell me to do.

Jul 20, 2008 - Keep practicing. Its hard to see the cut angle from my view but would you be able to cheat the pocket to hold up the cue ball? Try that option.
