UPDATE: The reason I couldn't find von Neumann dissing evolution is because HE DIDN'T: http://pandasthumb.org/archives/2008/08/von-neumann-on.html Debunking this stupid Berlinski video on evolution and whales. Hat tip to the YouTube Skeptic: http://youtubeskeptic.wordpress.com/

Oct 31, 2008 - Well, no, because the fused chromosome was functionally similar to the two separate ones--it made the same proteins and everything. But obviously there is going to be a better pairing when both sides have the same number of chromosomes. It was basically a 50/50 shot as to whether they kept the fused chromosomes or went back to the separate ones.
dwillpirate Says:
Oct 31, 2008 - So you are telling me that a "normal" ape, could have mated with a "human" even though one had 24 chromosomes and one had 23 chromosomes. And that even if that happened there was only a 50/50 chance the chromosome in the offspring would stay fused?
shanedk Says:
Oct 31, 2008 - Sigh...No, that is NOT what's being said. The forerunners of modern humans had already branched out from the other apes when this happened. I REALLY do not understand how creationists comprehend evolution...
dwillpirate Says:
Oct 31, 2008 - Well, help me understand. Can you send me a personal message and explain exactly how and when this happened. If you want, you can even begin with how life began on a planet that was previously just carbon, oxygen and hydrogen etc... I REALLY do not understand how evolutionist comprehend evolution, that's why I am asking.
middlekk Says:
Nov 2, 2008 - Umm...what he's saying is that the speciation occurred BEFORE the chromosome fusion. It's really that simple. What about "before" do you not understand?
dwillpirate Says:
Nov 3, 2008 - what is speciation?
shanedk Says:
Nov 3, 2008 - Speciation is where a population divides into two smaller populations and diverges to the point where they cannot produce fertile offspring with each other, only in their own group. That's what a species is.
157626 Says:
Nov 3, 2008 - Thanks for the video. Berlinski is so disingenuous and moronic that it defies all reason. Folks, debating in a youtube comment section is pointless. Do some READING!
dwillpirate Says:
Nov 3, 2008 - What would case speciation? Would that mean that at some point, an offspring would not be able to reproduce with its parents? How long would it take for these multiple species groups to no longer be able to reproduce with each other?
shanedk Says:
Nov 3, 2008 - Here's a video that shows one way it can happen: watch?v=Nnu-O5x_pRU
lynchmobb2000 Says:
Nov 3, 2008 - You expose yourself as disingenuous when you come on youtube and ask people here about science and evolution. We are not here to educate you. You should spend the next couple of years reading and learning the basic textbooks. Then spend the next year reading the most recent journals and publications. Then come back here. You will then have a basis to join the discussion with the rest of us educated folk. Don't come on here and and flippantly ask basic questions which betray you know nothing.
dwillpirate Says:
Nov 4, 2008 - Well, first of all, I never claimed to know anything about evolution. Second, if you dont want to "educate" me, dont reply. Third, I dont have three years to devote to reading about evolution. I came here to have the basic questions that I have answered. I really dont see where the hostility comes from. To be quite honest, this isnt really an educated conversation, it is mostly a bunch of people saying how big an idiot Berlinski is or that they agree.
npeffer Says:
Nov 4, 2008 - Just grab the wikipedia article on evolution. It was pretty decent last time I checked, and will be more accurate than a bunch of people blabbing on youtube
GetREALnThink Says:
Nov 4, 2008 - So where did life begin? Remind me.
npeffer Says:
Nov 4, 2008 - Good video
middlekk Says:
Nov 5, 2008 - In primordial oceans about 3.8 billion years or so ago. Simple question. Simple answer.
GetREALnThink Says:
Nov 5, 2008 - How did it get there?
middlekk Says:
Nov 6, 2008 - Simple organic molecules, methane, carbon dioxide, formaldehyde, etc. were abundant in the early earth. Plus simple nitrogenous compounds like ammonia. These same compounds are plentiful in other space objects as well; comets, asteroids, etc. In short, they're everywhere. Again, simple answer. Your ignorance is showing.
GetREALnThink Says:
Nov 6, 2008 - Didn't they try and prove this in some scientific experiment and it failed? Adding all these things they used a sparking device to replicate early earth.. I believe it was done by Stanley Miller.
GetREALnThink Says:
Nov 6, 2008 - Oh one more thing you respond like these things have been proven to be fact but they are far from it. In the end they are all just theory. Right or wronog?
shanedk Says:
Nov 6, 2008 - Sigh...another complete ignoramus who doesn't even understand what the word "theory" means shoots off his mouth and passes judgement on others. See my video, "Evolution: Theory or Fact?" to get set straight on this. Really, it's WAY embarrassing when you creationists do this.
shanedk Says:
Nov 6, 2008 - See cdk007's video on the work of Dr. Szostak. His work has been confirmed in the lab. You've also been lied to about the Miller-Urey experiments. Look up the findings from the recent analysis of their results using modern technology.
silvercade Says:
Nov 6, 2008 - You pretty much made Berlinski look like a complete moron. I hope he was paid to say those idiotic things by creationists because if not then he's got a few problems.
lutecore Says:
Nov 15, 2008 - i love you man love you

dwillpirate Says:
Oct 31, 2008 - Thanks for the answer on the first part. But you didn't really answer my second part. I did look it up. And they say (in a nutshell) the split from Ape to human happened with a fused chromosome. But, wouldnt there have to have been two "new humans", one male and one female that had the same mutated chromosome and mated to continue this new species with the fused chromosome? I dont doubt there are chromosome mutations. I am questioning how these get passed.
