Chris Lawton introduced this tonight at the Greenville GOP meeting: Resolution Supporting Party Members who Support Candidates Opposing Censured Candidates Whereas, the 2008 Republican Platform, as passed by the Republican National Committee, expressly states, "We oppose amnesty. The rule of law suffers if government policies encourage or reward illegal activity. The American people's rejection of en masse legalizations is especially appropriate given the federal government's past failures to enforce the law"; Whereas, the 2007 South Carolina Republican Party Platform states, "...the South Carolina Republican Party adamantly opposes blanket amnesty for anyone who has not gone through the appropriate legal channels to enter our country"; Whereas, the 2001 Greenville County Republican Convention passed a resolution opposing any legalization of illegal immigrants; Whereas, the Greenville County Executive Committee in 2004 and 2006 passed resolutions opposing any legalization of illegal immigrants; Whereas, thousands of grass-roots, self-described Republicans, here in Greenville County have sent e-mails, faxes, letters, made telephone calls, and showed up at events to express their strong opposition to any legalization of illegal immigrants; Whereas, U. S. Senator Lindsey Graham adamantly supports legalization of illegal immigrants in spite of the evidence stated above; Whereas, U. S. Senator Lindsey Graham expressed contempt for grassroots Republicans, conservatives, and anti-illegal immigration activists by calling them "bigots" who will be told to "shut up," before the National La Raza Conference; Whereas, the Greenville County Republican Party Executive Committee voted to censure Senator Lindsey Graham on Monday, August 6, 2007; Whereas, this censure did not cause Senator Graham to change his stand on aiding and abetting illegal aliens; Whereas, the Greenville County Republican Party Executive Committee needs to hold all Republican candidates accountable for their current positions, no matter what positions were held when the candidates first ran for office; Whereas, the Greenville County Republican Party rejoices when its members and officers align their views with the platforms of the South Carolina Republican Party and Republican National Committee, including on the topic of immigration; Whereas, a candidate who more closely adheres to the principles espoused by the state and national Republican organizations is running for U.S. Senate than the Republican candidate; Therefore, let it be resolved: That the Greenville County Executive Committee will in no wise censure, rebuke or remove any member or officer from any roll or position as the result of supporting a candidate who adheres more closely to Republican principles than the Republican candidate, and the censure, rebuke or removal of any executive committee members occurring on 10/6/2008 is hereby reversed, made null and void, and their positions reinstated.
