A peaceful public environment to encourage contemplation, reflection and introspection Elko Peace Park A peaceful public environment to encourage contemplation, reflection and introspection Elko Peace Park 3' x 4' tall Universal Peace Wheel. Wishes and testimonials for world peace from the Nobel Peace Laureates along with those of Elko residents. Each time someone rotates the wheel, the wishes inside are "said" as many times as the wheel rotates. There will be landscaped pathways leading to the gazebo which will house the wheel. Peace Wheel Drumming Circle Labyrinth The labyrinth is a single, yet winding path that leads to a central point. Follow the path to you get to your center: no directions, no decisions, no getting lost. Walking the labyrinth offers us personal quiet time and space or just to be quiet outside of our busy schedules, which re-energizes and renews us. The drumming circle is a gathering space with a fi repit surrounded by sand and stone. Drumming, dancing, story-telling and theatre all happen here. Within this circle we join with the land and with each other in the celebration of life. The central theme of our park is compassion and wisdom for peace. The park hosts interconnecting open spaces that invite all religions, cultures and metaphysical expressions to gather and refl ect. The park is a showcase for our Great Basin's natural elements. And a small part of a larger vision to connect north and south side parkways in Elko. Rock Wall The rock wall serves as a butress designed to stabalize the creek bed and adjacent roadway from errosion. It is a decorative and educational feature that showcases the Great Basin's geological formations and serves as a bouldering sturcture for children, youths, and adults. Creek Bed The park has natural features and is designed with a sense of identity and place. 8 Mile Creek, currently fl ows during spring months and runs the length of the park. As part of the revitalization we are refurbishing the stream bed so it can be enjoyed throughtout the year. The demonstration garden hosts a colorful introduction to various Great Basin plants imbedded in a functional landscape, complete with shade structures and walkways. In addition, the 8.5 acres of park will be landscaped using many native species. Interpretive signs help visitors to indentify indigeous plants, while showing homeowners low water-use beauty.
