The Concept: The theme given to us for this short film is Urban Life. In our video, we are trying to show the consumerism aspect of urban life. Living in a cosmopolitan city, we enjoy spending money and living luxuriously. This becomes more prominent with the striving economy and increasing salaries. In this culture, we tend to like keeping up with fashions and trends, whether it is in technology, clothes or cosmetics. As a result, new things keep coming in and older things that are outdated, become unwanted and are either thrown away or push aside, hence resulting in many unwanted things at home. This is the reason to why many people especially those who are reasonably well off have many unnecessary and unwanted things at home. As the amount of things we buy increase, waste also increases. However, not many people realize the significance of this. The increase in waste also means more land field is needed to accommodate these waste. But space is running out In our film, The Material Girls, is stereotyping two teenage girls in an urban city. They enjoy shopping and keeping up with fashion and cosmetics. They know how to relax and enjoy life, as this can be seen at the beginning of the film, when the main character is snoozing on the grass. They end up with bag and bags of shopping, despite the many more things at home. These young girls do not realize that there are many people in this world that cannot even afford their meals let alone keep up with upmarket fashion. This is true. As our lifestyle improves, we tend to forget how fortunate we are and are always demanding and yearning for more. We become more greedy and more materialistic.
