I wish the banks would go with the lesser evil of keeping people in their homes to avoid snowballing problems like those houses. Buying up the houses to rent them out, however, does a great social harm in keeping people from being able to buy their own place eventually. The blame for the situation falls at least 50% on the dumb-ass buyers who got into more house than they could afford in chasing free appreciation profits. The bank underwriters deserve 30% and the govt the rest for not adequately enforcing existing law and not pursuing fraud.
